@Neve2602, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP Envy laptop has been stuck on the “Preparing Automatic Repair” screen since yesterday. This issue can occur due to corrupted system files, failed updates, or hardware issues. Let’s try the following steps to resolve it:

Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary memory and can sometimes break the loop.

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove any external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop.

Boot into Recovery Mode

If the hard reset doesn’t help:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly until the Choose an option screen appears.
  3. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

If Startup Repair fails, go back to Advanced Options and try:

  • System Restore (if you have restore points)
  • Command Prompt and run:
    chkdsk /f /r C:
    sfc /scannow

Use HP Recovery or Reset

If none of the above work, you may need to reset the PC:

  1. Boot into Recovery (F11).
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  3. Choose to keep your files or remove everything.

Optional: Run HP Diagnostics

To rule out hardware issues:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and press Esc, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the System Tests.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
