Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Stuck in a loop after attempting to undo the latest update. I did a hard reset....tried F8....continues to loop "Attempting to undo changes", etc., Attempting to recover installation......seeing both messages alternately.

IF you do NOT have any files that you need to save, I would download the W10 ISO from Microsoft and do a clean install.  Doing this will erase everything on your hard drive.

You will get the latest version of W10.

You need an 8GB USB drive to create the ISO.  After the USB ISO drive is created, install the USB drive, press F9 at startup, direct it to boot from the USB drive, do a custom install, delete all of the existing partitions and then let it install.  After the install check the "optional" windows 10 driver updates.

You may end up having to install a few hardware drivers manually but most likely not.

The laptop won't allow me to get into the BIOS....it continues with that loop

you wouldn't have to get into the BIOS, you would have to boot off the USB drive you create with the Microsoft W10 ISO that you can download.  Do you have access to working computer you can use to create a the USB drive with W10?

To boot off the USB drive press F9 several times during startup.

I created the file on the usb.....booted to it....I got to the point where it wants to install devices and it is not doing anything for about an hour.

My question is...this laptop started out with Win 8...should i have installed that first?I am totally stuck now...

Did you delete all of the hard drive partitions and start new?  This WILL delete everything on your dive so if you have any information you need to keep you will have to find a way to do that first.

If it had windows 8 initially you can jump right to windows 10 when doing a clean install.

The PC will not permit me to get into the BIOS,,,, it proceeds with that circle

You don't need to get into the BIOS.

Press and hold the power button to shut the laptop down all the way.  Hold the power button until it turns off.

Put the windows 10 USB in a USB drive power on the laptop and keep pressing F9 until you see a boot text message in the lower left part of the screen.

When the menu comes up select the USB drive from the boot menu to reinstall Windows 10.  Do a custom Install and delete all partitions IF you don't have anything on the hard drive you want to save.  Doing this will erase everything.
