The main performance issue with older laptops and using video is the hard drive.  These are older, slower, drives and any video information, whether being downloaded (in streaming) or playing a game, has to use that drive, even though the video actually plays in memory.

I have a really old HP DV6 where I replaced the old hard drive with an SSD and it works fairly quickly now.

This is not a simple thing to do -- and it costs money to buy the SSD and then pay to have a technicial "Clone" Windows from your HDD to the SDD.  But the increase in performance is like night and day!

What is your machine ?

Counter-Strike: Source Recommended Requirements

  • CPU: Pentium 4 processor (3.0 GHz, or better)
  • CPU SPEED: 3.0 GHz
  • RAM: 1 GB
  • VIDEO CARD: DirectX 9 level Graphics Card
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 128 MB
  • PIXEL SHADER: 2.0
  • VERTEX SHADER: 2.0
  • OS: Windows 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP
  • FREE DISK SPACE: 4.6 GB
  • SOUND CARD: Yes

From the above list, I think the processor on your machine is not fast enough. It only has 1.60 GHz

Regards.
