My mom got a bunch of workbooks and stuff donated to her or the school was going to throw it away, including the hp laptop which obviously has a k12 program on it... She gave me everything bc I needed the computer and have kids who can use the books for learning but I can't get past the k12 program to be able to do anything with it... Please help

I'm not personally familiar with the K12 program, but my grandkids recently got laptops from their schools -- and those thinks are locked up tighter than Fort Knox!!
Sorry, there is nothing WE can do to bypass those locks -- which is entirely why the schools put them there in the first place.
This is one of the main reasons I personally advise people to AVOID used laptops -- because they are locked up tight.
The additional issue is that you could download Win10 install media from Microsoft, but then, it would not have HP drivers -- which you need -- and you would have to BUY a retail license for each laptop -- because the existing HP OEM license key embedded into the firmware with each laptop will not activate the retail Windows version you will be downloading.
So, it's going to cost you to reset each laptop so that you can NOW use it -- no way around that, sorry.
