My (HP 15s-fq0xxx) laptop is not charging. I tested the battery and it is fine.

And my warranty has expired.

@Lesego1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check the Power Adapter

Confirm it’s working: Plug the adapter into another compatible laptop or use a multimeter to check voltage output.

Inspect for damage: Check the cable for frays, kinks, or a loose connector.

Try a different charger: If available, test with a known good HP charger of the same specs.

Inspect the Charging Port

Use a flashlight to check if the DC jack (charging port) is loose, damaged, or obstructed.

Wiggle the connector gently – if it charges intermittently, the port or internal solder joints might be damaged.

Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes a static charge can interfere with power detection.

Steps:

Shut down the laptop.

Unplug the charger.

Remove the battery (if removable; if not, skip this).

Hold the power button for 15–30 seconds.

Reconnect the battery and charger, then try powering on.

Update or Reinstall Battery Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can stop charging.

Steps:

Connect the laptop to power (even if it says not charging).

Press Win + X → Select Device Manager.

Expand Batteries.

Right-click and Uninstall the following:

Microsoft AC Adapter

Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

Reboot your laptop. Windows will reinstall them automatically.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

HP laptops have built-in diagnostics to check power-related issues.

Steps:

Turn off the laptop.

Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP Diagnostics.

Run the Battery Test and AC Adapter Test.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
