Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 (7N773AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

My hp victus 15-fa1xxx has recently been experiencing issues with speed. It has a 4060 mobile and i5 12500h so should run fairly smoothly but it has recently had issues with running basic apps like file explorer and has really long load times both inside windows and booting into it. I have reinstalled windows multiple times and recovered the bios which fixed it for about a week but then as I tried to install fusion 360, the issue came back. It is out of warranty and I got it for Christmas in 2023. Any help would be much appreciated 😀

Hi @Plusraindrop221,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding performance issues on the HP Victus 15-fa1xxx!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check for Windows Updates: Ensure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, the latest updates include fixes for performance issues.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Run HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant is a powerful tool designed by HP to help manage updates, troubleshoot problems, and provide support for your device.

  • If it’s not already installed, you can download and install it from HP Support Assistant.
  • Run HP Support Assistant and perform all recommended updates.

Update Drivers: Ensure all your drivers are up-to-date, especially for graphics (NVIDIA 4060 mobile) and the chipset.

  • You can run HP Support Assistant or visit HP Customer Support to download the latest drivers for your device model.

Check for Hardware Issues: Run hardware diagnostics to ensure there are no issues with your components.

  • Restart your device and press F2 repeatedly to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and perform a full system test.

BIOS Update and Settings: Check if there’s an update available for your BIOS and ensure it's properly configured.

  • Verify the BIOS settings for optimal performance, especially boot order and any hardware initialization.

Check Storage: Inspect your SSD/HDD health and ensure it’s not full. A failing drive or a drive with little free space can severely impact performance.

  • Use tools like CrystalDiskInfo or the built-in Windows utility chkdsk.

Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to rule out software conflicts.

  • Follow instructions from Microsoft on performing a clean boot here.

Malware Scan: Ensure your system is clean from any virus or malware.

  • Run a full scan using Windows Defender or any reputable antivirus software.

Performance Troubleshooter: Run the built-in Windows Performance Troubleshooter.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Run the troubleshooter for performance.

Reinstallation of Fusion 360: During the last BIOS recovery attempt, Fusion 360 installation might have conflicted. Retry installation ensuring no other processes are taking up significant system resources.

I hope this helps.
