I’ve got an older 2019 ZBook that’s running Windows 11. Last night, I selected “Update and Shut Down” like usual, and everything seemed fine, until it wasn’t. After shutting down, the laptop powered itself back on, showed the HP logo for a split second, then shut off again. And now it’s stuck in this endless reboot loop.

I’ve tried all the usual key commands Esc, F2, F11, but the system reboots before I can even get to any of the BIOS or recovery screens.

Hi @Niazi27 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ZBook is experiencing a boot loop issue, which could be due to a failed update or other system error. Here are several steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Perform a Hard Reset:

      • Turn off the computer completely.
      • Disconnect any external devices such as printers, USB devices, and external hard drives.
      • Unplug the power adapter.
      • Remove the battery if it's removable.
      • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
      • Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
      • Attempt to turn on the computer again.

    2. CMOS Reset & BIOS Recovery : HP ZBooks have a hardware-level recovery feature that runs a full BIOS check upon detection of corruption or failure. This is the most likely fix for this specific boot loop symptom. Here is the hp article how to do cmos reset and bios recovery.

    3. Recovery Using a USB Drive (Last Resort):

If the internal recovery partition is also corrupted, you need to manually force the BIOS update from an external source.

Step 1: Prepare the USB Drive (on another PC)

      1. Find the exact latest BIOS Update file (usually a .exe file) for your ZBook Studio G7 (8YP44AV) on the official HP Support website.

      2. Run the downloaded .exe file on the working computer. Instead of installing, it will give you an option to "Create Recovery USB Flash Drive."

      3. Format a USB flash drive (8GB or larger) to FAT32 and select it to create the recovery media.

Step 2: Force the Update on the ZBook

      1. Turn off the ZBook completely.

      2. Insert the BIOS Recovery USB drive.

      3. Press and hold the Windows Key and the 'V' Key (or Win+ B) key combination.

      4. Power On: While holding Win+ V, press the Power Button for 1 second, then release the power button but continue holding Win+ V.

      5. The system should now recognize the external recovery files and load the HP BIOS Update screen to flash the firmware.

If these steps fail, especially the forced Win+ V or Win+ B recovery, the corrupted firmware has likely disabled the early boot input entirely, indicating a severe, internal motherboard or BIOS chip failure that requires service.

Hope this helps solves your issue.
