HP Notebook - 15-da0087nl

My laptop's battery recently started to have some issues. When shut off the laptop charges normally and an orange light indicating that the pc is charging appears, but when the pc is turned on, the light disappears, the laptop stops charging and the battery level goes down (pretty fast also).

I've already tried to use another charger with the same features as the original but the same problem appears.

Hi @elenjna

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details—and I’m truly sorry you’re facing this issue. It’s incredibly frustrating when a laptop that charges perfectly while powered off suddenly refuses to charge when turned on, especially when the battery drains rapidly.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery process to help restore proper charging behavior on your HP Notebook 15-da0087nl.

1. Run HP Battery Diagnostics from UEFI

This will help determine whether the battery is failing or if the issue lies with the power management system.

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Press the power button, then immediately begin tapping the F2 key repeatedly.
  • In the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu, select Component Tests > Battery.
  • Run the Quick Test and note any failure ID or status messages.

If the battery test fails, HP provides guidance on next steps:

2. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears residual power and resets the embedded controller.

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger and power on the laptop.

This step can often restore normal charging behavior if the embedded controller was stuck.

3. Update BIOS and Power Management Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause erratic charging behavior when the system is powered on.

  • Visit the HP 15-da0087nl driver page.
  • Download and install the latest:
    • BIOS update
    • Chipset driver
    • Intel Management Engine Interface
    • HP System Event Utility

Restart the system after installation.

4. Check Battery Status in Windows

  • Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Batteries and right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
  • Choose Uninstall device, then restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

5. Test with Minimal Load

Boot into Safe Mode or disable background apps temporarily to see if charging resumes under low power demand. This helps isolate whether the issue is thermal or load-related.

You deserve a laptop that charges reliably and performs without compromise—and I’ll stay with you until it’s resolved.
