Hi @T56hg,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you’re describing typically points to a hardware issue or a power-related problem. Below are possible causes and steps you can take to troubleshoot:

Possible Causes

Battery or Power Adapter Problem:

  • The battery might be dead or malfunctioning.
  • The charger may not be providing sufficient power.

Motherboard or Power Circuit Issue:

  • There could be a fault in the motherboard or the power circuitry.
  • Overheating or previous electrical surges might have damaged internal components.

RAM or Peripheral Hardware Issue:

  • Faulty RAM or improperly seated RAM modules can cause such issues.
  • A disconnected or damaged internal hardware component could also be to blame.

BIOS/CMOS Problem:

  • Corrupted BIOS or a CMOS battery failure can prevent the laptop from booting.

Short Circuit or Physical Damage:

  • A short circuit or damage from drops/spills can lead to such symptoms.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the charger without the battery and try turning it on.

2. Check Charger and Battery

  • Use a different, compatible charger to rule out charger issues.
  • If the battery is removable, try powering the laptop on with the charger alone (without the battery).

3. Check the Caps Lock Blinking Pattern

  • Some HP laptops use the Caps Lock blinking pattern to indicate hardware errors. Count the blinks (e.g., 2 or 3 blinks in a sequence) and note any beeps if they occur. Share this information for further diagnosis.

4. Reseat or Test RAM

  • If you're comfortable, open the laptop's back panel and remove and reseat the RAM. If you have multiple RAM sticks, test each one individually by trying to boot the laptop with one at a time.

5. Inspect for Physical Damage

  • Check for any visible signs of damage, such as burn marks or loose components inside the laptop.

6. Reset the BIOS

  • If you can reach the BIOS (press Esc, F2, or F10 while powering on), reset to factory defaults. If not, a CMOS battery reset may be needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
