Hi @silylily,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop isn't recognizing your keyboard, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Physical Connections

  • If you're using an external keyboard, make sure it is properly connected to the laptop. Try unplugging and replugging it into a different USB port.
  • For built-in keyboards, ensure there is no physical damage or debris under the keys that might be causing the issue.

2. Restart Your Laptop

  • A simple restart can often resolve many issues. Turn off your laptop completely and then turn it back on.

3. Check for Driver Issues

  • Open Device Manager: Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.Expand the Keyboards section and look for any entries with a yellow triangle or an error message.
  • Right-click on the keyboard entry and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

4. Reinstall Keyboard Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the keyboard entry and select Uninstall device.Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the keyboard driver.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your laptop.

6. Use an External Keyboard

  • If the built-in keyboard isn't working, try connecting an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard to see if it is recognized.

7. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, Del, or another key during startup). In the BIOS/UEFI, check if the keyboard is recognized. You might find options related to keyboard settings that you can adjust.

8. Boot into Safe Mode

  • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to see if the keyboard works there. To enter Safe Mode, hold down the Shift key while selecting Restart from the power menu.Once in Safe Mode, see if the keyboard works. If it does, there might be a software conflict or driver issue causing the problem in normal mode.

9. Check for Malware

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for malware that might be interfering with your keyboard.

10. Perform a System Restore

  • If the keyboard was working previously, you can try performing a system restore to a point where the keyboard was functioning correctly.Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
