@Margotmary, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

If you're unable to log in to your HP laptop due to a forgotten or incorrect password, don’t worry, there are a few ways to reset it depending on the type of account you're using.

If you're using a Microsoft Account (most common on Windows 10/11):

  1. Go to the Microsoft Password Reset page.
  2. Select "I forgot my password" and click Next.
  3. Enter your Microsoft account email and follow the on-screen instructions to verify your identity.
  4. Once reset, use the new password to log in to your laptop.

Make sure your laptop is connected to the internet for the new password to sync.

If you're using a Local Account (not linked to Microsoft):

For Windows 10/11:

  1. On the login screen, click "Reset password" (if available).
  2. Answer your security questions and set a new password.

If you don’t remember the answers or don’t see the reset option, you’ll need to use a password reset disk (if you created one) or perform a system recovery.

If none of the above work:

You may need to perform a System Recovery which will reset your laptop to factory settings (this will erase your data):

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly until the Choose an option screen appears.
  3. Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  4. Choose to keep or remove your files and follow the prompts.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
