Hi @Munazirhamid,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion 15 laptop with 8GB RAM and a 10th-generation processor is running slow, there could be several reasons for the performance issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve the performance.
- Check for background processes: Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any unnecessary programs or processes consuming high CPU or memory resources. Close any unwanted applications running in the background.
- Update your operating system and drivers: Ensure that your Windows operating system and device drivers are up to date. Outdated software can cause performance issues. Visit the HP support website or use the HP Support Assistant software to check for updates.
- Scan for malware: Run a thorough scan of your laptop using reliable antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses that might be affecting performance. Remove any detected threats.
- Disk cleanup and defragmentation: Use the built-in Disk Cleanup utility to remove temporary files, system files, and unnecessary data from your hard drive. Additionally, defragment your hard drive using the built-in Defragment and Optimize Drives utility.
- Disable startup programs: Many programs are set to start automatically when you boot up your laptop, which can slow down the system. Disable unnecessary startup programs to improve boot times and overall performance. You can manage startup programs using the Task Manager or the System Configuration utility (msconfig).
- Increase virtual memory: If your laptop's RAM is being heavily utilized, increasing the virtual memory (page file) can help improve performance. To adjust virtual memory settings, go to the System Properties > Advanced tab > Performance Settings > Advanced tab > Virtual memory.
- Disable visual effects: Reducing or disabling visual effects can free up system resources. Right-click on the Start button, go to System > Advanced system settings > Performance Settings > Visual Effects tab and choose "Adjust for best performance" or manually disable specific effects.
- Check for overheating: Overheating can cause performance throttling. Ensure that your laptop's cooling system is working properly, and clean any dust or debris from the vents and fans. You can use software like HWMonitor to monitor your system's temperature.
- Upgrade your storage: If your laptop uses a traditional hard drive (HDD), upgrading to a solid-state drive (SSD) can significantly improve performance. SSDs are faster and more reliable than HDDs.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
