HP Envy x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-ac0000 (8Z200AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My pc once in a while (sometimes multiple times in a row) shuts down on itself: it first appears a black screen with a white writing starting with: 0% (I cannot read the rest since it appears only for a moment). Could someone tell me what can I do? Thanks

Hi @Giovanni_Mang

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for describing the issue so clearly—it sounds deeply disruptive, especially when it happens multiple times in a row. That brief black screen with white text starting at “0%” is likely part of a Windows crash dump or shutdown sequence, possibly triggered by a critical system error or overheating.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you stabilize your HP Envy x360 16-ac0000:

1. Check for Overheating

Sudden shutdowns are often caused by thermal protection kicking in:

  • Make sure vents are clear and the laptop is on a hard surface.
  • Use HP Command Center to switch to Cool Mode.
  • You can download it here:
    HP Command Center

2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

This will check for hardware faults:

  • Shut down your laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter diagnostics.
  • Run System Tests → Extensive Test and pay attention to Thermal and Memory results.

3. Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause instability:

4. Check Windows Reliability Monitor

This tool shows crash history:

  • Press Win + R, type perfmon /rel, and hit Enter.
  • Look for red Xs on the timeline—click them to see error details.

5. Disable Fast Startup

Sometimes this feature causes erratic shutdowns:

  • Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup.

6. Scan for Corrupted System Files

Run these commands in Windows Terminal (Admin):

sfc /scannow

Then:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If the issue persists after these steps, it may be worth checking whether any recent updates or third-party apps are triggering the crash. Let me know what you find in Reliability Monitor or Diagnostics—I’ll help interpret the results.

Hey, thank you very much. Unfortunately I could not try your instructions in time since my pc now does only this:

And then when running diagnsotics the only failed test is this:

How can I do? Thanks in advance
