Every time I try to sign in it won't let me. It says "your credentials could not be verified" or "something went wrong and your PIN isn't available"

Please help!

Hi @Jerry697, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error message suggests that Windows cannot verify your PIN, possibly due to a corruption in the Windows Hello PIN system or a problem with the TPM (Trusted Platform Module). Here’s how to fix it:

Fix 1: Try Using Your Password Instead

  1. On the login screen, click "Sign-in options" (below the PIN field).
  2. Select "Password" and enter your Microsoft or local account password.

If you don’t remember your password, you may need to reset it using another device via Microsoft's password reset page.

Fix 2: Boot into Safe Mode and Remove the PIN

Restart in Safe Mode:

  • Hold Shift and click Restart from the power icon on the login screen.
  • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • Press 4 to select Safe Mode.

Remove the PIN:

  • Once in Safe Mode, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  • Click Remove PIN and restart normally.

Set Up a New PIN:

  • After rebooting, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  • Choose Windows Hello PIN and set a new one.

Fix 3: Reset TPM (if using Windows Hello PIN)

  1. Press Windows + R, type tpm.msc, and press Enter.
  2. In the TPM Management window, click Clear TPM.
  3. Restart your PC and try setting up the PIN again.

I hope this helps. 🚀

Take care and have a good day.
