Hello @ymv1021
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
- It's either broken key or other physical issue with this button (which is extremely rare unless you have been actively using the Print Screen button tens of times per day)
- It may be software problem - some program may have overtaken the Print Screen key and now when you press the button, this program is using the button, it no longer serves as a taking screens and saving them in the Clipboard - what is a clipboard >> https://www.computerhope.com/jargon/c/clipboar.htm
- Some programs like OneDrive, Dropbox, Snipping tool can take over the Print Screen key. Have you recently performed any changes or updates in them ?
Try these:
- ALT + PrintScreen - Open Paint and paste the image from clipboard.
- WinKey + PrintScreen -This saves teh screenshot to a PNG file in Pictures\Screenshots folder. Use Fn + WinKey + PrintScreen for laptops.
- Try restarting the computer >> https://www.digitalcitizen.life/7-ways-shut-down-or-restart-windows-10-pc-or-device
Any difference ? Please, provide a detailed update.

- my button is not broken because it works if I hold the windows button with prt scn button to take a screenshot. I feel like this is a hassle and would like to revert back to only having to press one button.
- I have only done the updates recommended by HP and Microsoft
- I don't have Dropbox installed on my computer but I do have Onedrive and the snipping tool. I have had these two programs the whole time I've owned my laptop and at the prt scn button worked fine.
- I have also tried to restart and turn off then back on my laptop to see if it was just a glitch and had no luck
- How do I determine what it is that has taken over my prt scn button?

- If I understand you correctly, it used to work fine on this same computer but not anymore ?
- If positive, do you connect this to some sort of an update or change (no matter if it was an HP or Microsoft one) ?
- Did it always work for you with just the Print screen button.
- On some computer in order to make it work, you need to press a combination - Fn+PrtSc or Win key+PrtSc
Please, test and confirm -> Once you hold down the Win key +Print Screen key, it saves it to the Clipboard, now open up Paint app or your favorite photo editor go to the toolbar or Edit and Choose Paste, your screen shot will be pasted into the editor.
Do you see it there pasted ?
