Hi @Vs720120
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your screen is displaying "Please install an operating system on your hard disk," it typically means that the system cannot find a bootable operating system. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del during startup).
- Verify that your hard drive is recognized in the BIOS.
- Check the boot order to ensure that the hard drive is set as the first boot device.
2. Inspect Physical Connections
- Power off the computer and unplug it.
- Check the connections to the hard drive, ensuring that power and data cables are securely connected.
- If you have multiple drives, try disconnecting them and connecting just the main drive to see if it’s detected.
3. Run Hardware Diagnostics
- Many HP computers come with built-in diagnostics. Look for an option in the BIOS to run hardware tests, specifically for the hard drive.
4. Check for Drive Errors
- If you have a bootable USB or DVD with a recovery tool or installation media (like Windows), boot from it.
- Select the Repair your computer option.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Command Prompt and run:
- Replace C: with the appropriate drive letter if needed.
5. Rebuild Boot Configuration
- While booted from the installation media, go to Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Command Prompt.
- Run the following commands:
6. Reinstall the Operating System
- If all else fails and you cannot recover the system, you may need to reinstall the operating system.
- Make sure to back up any important data if you have access to it.
7. Test the Hard Drive
- If you still encounter issues, it’s possible the hard drive has failed. Consider testing it in another system or using a drive diagnostic tool
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
