- I am a pensioner and needed to replace my 13 year old laptop. I understood that hp was a good company so spent my Pension on a notebook that died after just over 20 months. It seems that there is no goodwill whatsoever at hp and an email to the ceo asking if they woukd at least go halfway towards the £200 repair on the £349 laptop was passed down through the ranks and I was told - and I quote - "We do not give goodwill gestures not even to pensioners other customers would want them and this would be discrmination." You couldn't make it up. Funnily enough I have looked back at others with similar problems and guess what?? Hp have carried out the repairs for free, but then this was/a man claiming that he didn't have themoney for the repair and his daughter needed it for fonr her homework. Oh, so that's not discrimnation the!!! not discrmination - typing on an old free tzblet with one finger - hence the typos. Man e en claimec they didn't have another computer. Wonder how he typed his complaint ontobthe website, which iscertainlynot tzblet friendly. Had to reregisteted just yo get on forum as systen sent me round in circles. Already spent £48 just to get my data but of course need a new laptop to put it in. Pointless advice from someone on the forum ? Hp employer, about how to get my data. I maybe old but I'mnit stupid. Oh, wait a minute, I bought an hp notebook, it broke down prematurely and I senda very nice emai to tne ceo looking for some goodwill. I am wrong, I ami deed stupid!! I thank you hp.

Sorry for your troubles. And yes whatever minion is anwering these emails needs some human relations training. But whoever it is has got it correct. The warranty is the warranty. Yes sometimes HP makes exceptions but it is not based on who you are or your circumstances it is based on the problem and how widespread it is. The Community here is staffed with fellow end users and we have no power to bestow free or reduced price service but if HP is saying the repair will be $200 we can likely figure a way for you to get it done for much, much less. Post back and describe the troubles and give us the exact model number of the laptop and perhaps we can provide some meaningful help.

Thank you. Trying to respond but page jumping all iver the place and doesn't seem to want me to correct errors!
Anyhow, my reason for posting is that I have noted that sometimes someone from hp has the decency to pick up the posting and give a private reply out if shame, ifnothing else.. I also note thst you are quoting iin dollars but I am in the uk o uso it'ss £200, band don't know whether thete is another site. However, frommy research and on the advice of a government approvec repair centre the cost of repair isnot apPpropriat at those sort if costs andin fact tbey wouldnot even do it. So, if you can help me find a reasinbly priced motherboard plus installec and windows 10 64 bit I woukd bemost vrateful. Too tedious to attempt typo correction, so apologies.

You need to read what I write if you want help. Without a model number or product number there is no way for me to tell which motherboard you need. Does that make sense? If the laptop needs a new motherboard and I say IF because I have no idea, then we will on further reflection be hard pressed to beat 200 pounds or 200 dollars, but I sense you are typing on the computer in question? That makes it unlikely the problem is the motherboard or it would not boot up at all, usually.

Excuse me but it is you who have not read my post where I state tgat I am using an old tablet - 7" Hauwei Youth 7 if you must know. I have also statex quite clearly tbat the laptop has been thoroughly examined by a uk government approved repairer who is qualified and also a Microsoft approved engineer. That makes 3 experts who have confirmed that the motherboard needs replacing and I trust them. You are jyst cinfirming what I alreasdykniw - that replacing the motherboard is expensi e si there is no point in prOving you with the midel number. You gave totally missed the point that hp declared that any goodwill gesture would be discriminatory and therefore they never give them. I have made myself clear. It is pretty obvious that you are on this site hoping to keep in with hp. I do not intend indulging your rudeness further, but if course you will be totally oblivious of the fact that your communication was out if order, just like a rotten hp notebook!
