Hi @sew3343,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where "NX" appears when you try to type. Let's get more details to better understand the problem.
- Does "NX" appear randomly while typing, or is it specific to certain applications or websites?
- Have you noticed any specific key or combination of keys triggering the "NX" text to appear?
- Does restarting the laptop or using an external keyboard affect the issue in any way?
Kindly elaborate more on the issue?

The NX combination appears randomly whether I am in a browser search or in ine start box.. I can restart the computer and it will go away, but it does come back.
I turned off indexing and it seems to lessen the frequency, but it was still there.

Hi @sew3343,
The issue you're experiencing, where the combination "NX" appears randomly while typing, could be caused by several factors, including software conflicts, keyboard issues, or malware. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check for Stuck Keys or Keyboard Issues
- Try using an external keyboard to see if the issue persists.
- Check for dirt or debris under the keys if using a physical keyboard.
- Run the on-screen keyboard (Win + Ctrl + O) and see if the issue appears without using the physical keyboard.
2. Run a Malware Scan
- Perform a full system scan using Windows Security or a reputable third-party antivirus like Malwarebytes to rule out malware or keyloggers.
3. Check Installed Software
- Some background applications (especially clipboard managers, custom keyboard software, or accessibility tools) could be causing interference. Try running your PC in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists.
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and go to the Boot tab.
- Select Safe boot > Minimal, click OK, and restart.
4. Disable Background Applications
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check the Startup tab. Disable unnecessary programs, especially those related to keyboard functionality.
5. Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers
- Go to Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager), expand Keyboards, and uninstall the driver. Restart your PC to reinstall it automatically.
6. Check for Windows Updates
- Make sure your Windows is fully updated by going to Settings > Windows Update and installing any pending updates.
7. Test in a Different User Profile
- Create a new user account and check if the issue persists there. If not, it may indicate a profile-specific issue.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
