Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Hi,

I have a HP Pavilion G6 2140sf with non-working wifi on Windows 10.

I did a downgrade of the system to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. And now I am missing a couple of drivers for :

- Ethernet controller

- PCI device

- PCI simple communications controller

- SM bus controller

- Unknown device

And the wifi is still not working.

Can someone please help on what drivers should I get. I found some on " https://support.hp.com/fr-fr/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-g6-2100-notebook-pc-series/5262606/mode... " but I don't know which one to install.

Thanks,

Hi:

You need these drivers:

Ethernet controller:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55501-56000/sp55979.exe

PCI device:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55501-56000/sp55978.exe

PCI simple communications controller:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55501-56000/sp55972.exe

SM bus controller:  Note:  You should install this device first and restart the PC.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55501-56000/sp55970.exe

Unknown device:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61001-61500/sp61037.exe

If the Wi-Fi is not working, there should be a device in the device manager labeled as a Network Controller.

That is the Wi-Fi adapter that needs a driver.

If you do not see a Network Controller device listed in the device manager, then your wireless network adapter probably has a hardware problem of some kind.

Hi ! Thanks for the quick reply,

I no longer have drivers issues thanks to what you gave me.

But, the wifi is still not working. All I have in Device Manager/Network adapters is " Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller ". Is there any work-around or is it for sure an hardware issue ?

Also, the functions keys are not working, an idea how I can fix that ?

Thanks a lot,

You're very welcome.

Install the HP connection manager software and restart the PC.

Then see if you can turn on the Wi-Fi using the connection manager software controls, or at least get the Network Controller device to show up.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54945.exe

If that still does not get the Wi-Fi adapter/network controller (no driver) to show up, then the next thing you can try is to remove and firmly reseat the Wi-Fi adapter.

Sometimes the electrical contacts get oxidized over time and removing and reseating the Wi-Fi adapter often restores the electrical contact.

See chapter 4 of the service manual for how to remove and replace the Wi-Fi adapter.

Since you are not really replacing the actual hardware, leave the antenna wires connected if you can in order to facilitate a quicker reinstallation.

Well,

The HP connection manager didn't do it. I will try your second suggestion and will keep you posted.

Thanks again,

You're very welcome.

If reseating the wifi adapter doesn't work either, then the wifi adapter has failed and needs to be replaced, or you can buy a USB wifi adapter for wireless networking.

Hi Paul_Tikkanen,

I did what you said and that was the trick. The wifi is working properly now. Thanks a lot for your help.

But one last thing please, can you point to me a driver for the Display adapters of the laptop (Pavilion G6 2140sf) ? The default I have is still " Standard VGA Graphics Adapter ".

Thanks,

Hi:

There are only 64-bit drivers for the graphics on the support page.

I need to know what model processor your notebook has, so I can see if using a W7 32-bit graphics driver from a similarly equipped business class notebook will also work on yours.

I'm assuming since there is just one Standard VGA adapter listed, that your notebook only has the onboard Intel graphics adapter?

Hi Paul_Tikkanen,

Sorry for the late reply. I had a problem with the very same PC and had to re-install windows again.

I am now on Windows 7 64 bits.

And like previously, I have drivers issues with :

- Controleur de bus SM

- Controleur de bus USB

- Controleur Ethernet

- Controleur PCI de communication simplifiées

- Peripherique inconnu

- Periphérique PCI

- Driver for Intel HD graphics

Sorry, the system is in French now.

Does the links you gave me above still aply ? As I am now on Win7 64 bits

Sorry for the bother, and thanks.

Hi:

Yes, you can use the same drivers except for the graphics.

For the graphics, you need this driver...

This is the W7 64 bit graphics driver you need for the Intel graphics:
