Bought the lap 18 month ago and found out the hard drive was damaged last night. Managed to replace the broken one with hard drive from an older laptop. it is up and run now. But lost original system & offices.
Wonder if there is factory recover image file for download so I can reinstall the system and pre-installed software. please advise. Thanks a lot!

1 / if the computer is working correctly, and windows is activated, it's up to you
Either no worries, it works well, in this case, why bother ..
Either there are some problems, it could work better with a reinstallation, and then why not try ..
For updates, I don't know if you are thinking of HP support assistant software, but if so, it shouldn't be!
2 / we should check with microsoft, but yes, if you have a valid license, it should be ok
3 / the preinstalled programs are lost, you may be able to recover some, from the drivers and software page
However, if you need a particular program, we can always search if available otherwise!
Where to find an equivalent and free software

Hi,
Just wanted to add some info to the great reply by @Prométhée
You can also use the media creation tool from Microsoft on a different PC to create a bootable USB drive with the OS on it (Windows 10 Home 64-bit) to reinstall the latest version of OS, no product key needed and once completely updated it will find all the necessary drivers
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
I would recommend buying a cheap 2.5" SATA 3 SSD of your desired capacity and installing the OS on it. It would give a boost to the everyday performance of the machine. Here is the service manual if you need to get in there again.

Indeed, thank you @iomare
but I was just waiting for the answer from @XLRobert , in order to know if the HP option works, it is much simpler than by the iso microsoft, normally, the drivers must be included!
And if that is not compatible with his computer, then yes, the microsoft option remains!

Thanks a lot for getting the solution this quick, Prométhée and iomare .
Seems I do not need to reinstall Operation System since there is Windows10 on the hard drive I switched to this laptop. I am replying this post from the laptop now. I have a few questions below and see if it can simplify the process.
1. since I have Windows10 working on this laptop now, do I still need to reinstall the OS from HP? will the OS I am using now cause any problem for auto update from HP service?
2. Office 365, I assume I can download it from Microsoft directly and sign in with old account, it should continue our licence. Correct?
3. how about other software package came with original purchase?
please advise. thanks!

Prométhée, this is exactly what I wanted to know.
1. I will continue to use Windows10 on this new hard drive.
2. will test if still can use Office 365 properly.
3. will check my son if he has any specific software required from HP original supply.
Really appreciated the time and effort. Great help!
