Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a friend that installed a version Linux on his laptop, but now wants Windows back. The install of LInux has gotten rid of any trace of Windows on the laptop. Does anyone know where I can buy Recovery CD(s) for the laptop?

Hi:

The specs indicate that the notebook originally came with W8.1.

If your friend had upgraded the notebook to W10 prior to installing Linux on it, you can reinstall W10 for free by making a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive using the media creation tool at the link below.

Make a bootable W10 64 bit installation flash drive using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Boot from the W10 USB installation flash drive and when you get to the part that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space.

Click Next, and W10 should install.

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

If your friend would rather pay for W8.1 recovery media, you can order it from HP at the link below...

I can also provide a free way to create W8.1 installation media if you prefer.
