My sons HP is having a blue screen problem due to Unmountable Boot Volume Error, and will not recover. I have looked it up, and reached to the point where I believe I need a Windows 10 recovery USB. Where do I create this - here from HP's site or do I need another somputer with Windows 10 installed?

Hi,
In the answer above I showed you how to create a bootable windows 10 USB drive. You need to download the media creation tool from Microsoft on a different computer and run the tool. Choose "to install on different computer" and choose the same edition and version which was installed on the broken computer. It will give you the option to create a USB drive, choose this and create drive. It can take a while. This drive is an original full version of Windows 10.
Now insert a new hard drive in the "broken" computer and boot from the pendrive you created above and install Windows 10. You do not need product key as windows 10 will be automatically activated once installed and connected to internet (as long as you install the same edition already previously installed on the computer). If prompted for product key during installation click on "Do not have one".
Let me know if you need further help,
David

Hi,
From HP site you can buy recovery disks for your system.
You can create recovery disks or USB from a different computer with Windows 10 installed. Click on start and write "create recovery" and click on create a recovery drive. You will need a 4GB pendrive for this.
You can also download the media creation tool from Microsoft and run to create a bootable USB drive with Windows 10.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If you choose the last option you can boot from this drive and when you get to installation window (after choosing language etc...) in the left lower corner there is the option to "fix this computer". Choose this option and in advanced options choose startup repair.
Let me know if you need further help,
David

Thanks for the answer, I did create a recovery USB successfully - BUT it seems that the Harddisk is damaged. Is there any way to get a windows 10 reinstall for a new harddisk, the PC is only 14 months old, no guarantee though, but my son really needs it...
