Elitebook 840 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a blank Elitebook - blank as in, I got it without a HDD. As far as I can tell, the BIOS is corrupted, not working. When I turn on the machine, the screen stays black and nothing happens.

I would like to make a usb recovery drive using these instructions https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833#usbrecovery

But they don't work. All other non-hp computers I have access to give me the error message "The system BIOS update file is missing or corrupt. The system will not be updated" and then the screen in step 11 has all choices except the last, Backup, grayed out. It's not the file I downloaded either, I re-downloaded it about 20 times.

So I can't make a USB flash recovery drive.

What else can I do to install BIOS? I have a blank new SSD for the computer, but obviously it's blank. I don't have the old drive it came with. If I stick a bootable windows usb in and turn it on, nothing happens.

I would like an answer to my question please.

I have now tried to make a recovery usb flash drive using another HP Laptop. I got the same error message as before. I am beginning to believe that the recovery instructions are simply bogus and not meant to work at all.

This is very, very bad customer service and it makes me not want to use HP products ever again.

Yes. This is the solution that DOES NOT WORK, as I have stated in both my previous posts in this topic. I even linked to it in my first post.

I have tried it with four different machines, about 20 times. It does not work. It is bogus. It is a scam. It is not working. Please do not suggest it again. It does not work.
