I need to replace an imminently failing SSD on a OMEN by HP - 17-w253dx Product W2N51UA Serial [Personal Information Removed] and don't know the best way. I figure its best to use the second SSD slot and switch it over but I don't know if my omen has two SSD slots. Anyone know?

The product specs for your notebook indicate it came with a 1 TB 2.5" mechanical hard drive.

Your notebook only has one M.2 SSD slot.
If you installed a M.2 NVMe SSD, I recommend you take your chances and install a new one in its place.
I recommend the Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD.

What's the best way to do that? Create an image on an external drive then boot from that drive then clone it back onto the new ssd?
Also is this just as good of a replacement? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BBWH1R8H/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A36X6ZBPM8GO1Z&psc=1

How hard would it be to reinstall any programs and files you added after you purchased the notebook?
If it wouldn't be too difficult, then you can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store:

The Kingston drive you picked out will work but since the M.2 NVMe slot is only PCI Gen 3.0, it will not run at its advertised read/write speeds.
If you want to clone the existing M.2 SSD's drive contents to a new one, you will need to purchase a USB3 to NVMe SSD enclosure--something like this:
If you have a 2.5" SATA SSD, you can clone the contents to the NVMe SSD without the need of an adapter.
You can use the free Samsung magician software to clone to a supported Samsung SSD:
