HP ENVY 16 inch Laptop PC 16-h1000 (754F5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new ENVY H1053dx laptop. When I turned it on for the first time, there was no problem. I started up Widows 11, but when I set up Wi-Fi, I went to find my cell phone to use WPS and the computer was frozen. I pressed ALT/CTRL/DEL several times, and what it did was activate the fans at high speed, but the laptop never responded.

I had to turn it off, and when I turned it on again, it wouldn't turn on. I did the 15-second process with the power button, and nothing happened.

The laptop also turns on, the fans move, but there's no video, and it gets very hot for just a few minutes.

@RogerVE, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with your HP ENVY 16-inch laptop. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the freezing and startup problem:

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices and unplug the laptop from the power source.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power and try to turn on the laptop.

Safe Mode Startup:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and repeatedly press the F8 key to enter Safe Mode.
  • Once in Safe Mode, check if the issue persists. If it doesn't, it may be caused by a driver or software issue.

Check for Updates:

  • If you manage to boot into Windows, check for any available updates, especially for drivers and BIOS updates.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

System Restore:

  • If the problem started after you installed new software or updates, you can perform a system restore to revert to a previous state.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts to restore your system.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Sometimes network settings can cause freezing issues. Go to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.

Resetting Windows:

  • As a last resort, you can reset Windows 11. This will reinstall Windows but you can choose to keep your files or remove everything.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it might be best to contact HP Support for further assistance. You can reach out to HP Support through their website or by calling customer service.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Thanks for the reply. Apparently, the problem was the RAM. Both were replaced, and so far it's working fine.

Previously, it couldn't work on battery power alone. After replacing it, it reached critical levels and went into hibernation, then recovered without problems.

It would unexpectedly crash, whether it was working on a high- or low-resource task. Currently, it remains active at all times.

I don't know if this question can be answered in this case, but right now, the computer has SK Hynix DD5 5600 memory and a Kingston M.2. They're not bad, but they're not my favorites.

What would be the best memory and cards for this computer? Because it reaches uncomfortable temperatures, I think they should be temperature-resistant and compatible with the CPU and HP, according to the manufacturer.

Hey @RogerVE,

Thank you for your response

I'm glad to hear the unit is working fine now after the RAM replacement! It sounds like that resolved the crashes and the battery issue, which is great news.

Also, i suggest you refer to this guide and get a compatible RAM accordingly: Maintenance and Service Guide

I was just seeing that I use 26 GB of RAM daily, and I wanted to upgrade to more, but I tell you that it has 2 32GB RAM installed that add up to 64GB and it's working, now what do you recommend?

Hey @RogerVE,

Thank you for your response

It’s great to hear that everything is working now—and if the system’s running stable without any issues, then that’s even better! No need to tweak what’s already running smoothly. 😊👍

Take care and have a good day.
