HP Envy x360 15.6" with Ryzen 5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My newish Envy 360 periodically slows down dramatically, almost freezing and with the fan turning loudly.  Restarting the PC puts things back to normal for a day, then it happens again.  Started last week, after the latest Windows update

When this happens:

- no unusual tasks in Task monitor

- Performance monitor CPU, disk, and memory indicators are all less than 50%

- No unusual events in Event monitor

- No other programs need be running

- It can take 30 seconds to switch from Task monitor to Performance monitor

What I have tried:

- Windows defender scans, both regular and offline (nothing)

- unplug peripherals

- uninstall unneeded software

Suggestions appreciated

@Alex6789

You mentioned Windows Update -- so we need to know which specific Windows build you are running.  To find out, enter "winver" (without the quotes) in the Search area and report back what shows in the Window.

Windows 10 version 20H2.  Build 19042.928.

Thanks.

This loud fan/computer almost freezing behavior continues sporadically.  I have not found a solution yet.  What I noticed today is that while Task Manager/Performance Monitor both report CPU usage in the range of 10 - 20% while this is going on, the temperature monitor CoreTemp reports 90%+ loads for each of the cores in the Ryzen CPU.  CPU temp is reported as 25 degrees C.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.
