I just purchased an HP laptop in the same series. Mine is a 14m-cd0001dx and is pretty much the same as yours except 8 gigs of RAM. You have 2 speed bottlenecks...4 gigs RAM and the slow 5400 rom hard drive. Mine was actually pretty fairly useable with 8 gigs and I added an Optane module to speed up the hard drive. Made it much much faster.

Mine came with a single 8 gig module and an open slot and yours has a 4 gig module and an open slot.

Your Service manual

Start on page 30 to open the back cover and access the memory and M.2 slots.

red circle = M.2red circle = M.2

You see three zones above. The red oval is the M.2 slot where you would put an Optane module, the zone to the right of that is a metal shield that covers the memory slots and the zone below the M.2 is where you find the existing hard drive.

You need a 4 gig of DDR4-2400 to bring it to 8:

Intel 16 gb Optane memory module:

Add these 2 items in your laptop and it will be much, much faster. Post back for help with configuring the Optane to accelerate the hard drive (easy to do and no data loss).

Post back with any questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

You are responsible for installing any upgrades you purchase. If you don't want to install them yourself, you will need to pay someone to install them for you.

HP Recommended

Agreed. HP will not install 3rd party parts.
