Omen
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought an Omen laptop about 6 weeks ago, when I use it at work (plugged in) I typically close the lid at the end of the day, unplug it and take it home. Next morning when I'd open the lid and press the power button it would start up again, with quite a bit of battery left, in fact usually over 90%.

Lately it has been going completely dead, and one morning when I took it out it was warm, which tells me the sleep function was not kicking in.  I checked the power options and it is set to go to sleep when the lid is closed, and the wake timer is disabled while on battery.

Windows 10 (pro) recently updated, and it seems to be happening since that, but I am not 100% sure the timing matches.

I'd really like to get this back the way it was, I don't like shutting down every time, and would like to be able to bring it up on battery power to start from where I last left off.

When I do power it on after plugging in, it does come up where I last left off, so the sleep function sort of seems to be working.  I'd sooner not use hibernate, and I don't want the hyberfile created taking up valuable hard drive space.

Any other settings I could be missing?

thanks in advance.

Thanks - I'll try the disabling fast start up, the action when lid was closed was already set as suggested.

I was actually on with HP support and gave the support person access, she updated the bios so it would take effect on next start up, and also set the sleep when lid closed settings. However the battery went dead again after I rebooted, worked for the day and closed the lid, so I checked the power settings and sleep-when-lid-closed setting was turned off again. I turned the setting on again and after that it seemed ok. I would close the lid at work, open the laptop later when I got home and it would come right up, with the battery barely down from where it was when I closed the lid.

I thought it was fixed, so last night after doing some work I closed the lid, unplugged it and put it in carry bag to bring in today. I just brought it out and battery completely dead. I am now wondering if it has anything to do with the laptop being stored standing on its side in its case rather than laying flat on a desk - which is the only different thing that happened. When it was left flat and stationary (and unplugged) when lid was closed it came back up fine, but when I unplugged it, closed lid and put in laptop bag overnight then brought it in to work it was completely dead. Perhaps the movement tried to start it up?

However, on Friday I did exactly that, had it plugged in at work, unplugged it, closed the lid, put in bag and brought home. Saturday I took it out, did not plug it in, hit power button and up it came in seconds. Very odd.

In any case I will disable the fast start and test today, will see what happens.
