Hi @SDL12345,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your new Spectre laptop is stuck on updating for hours after installing Windows 11, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.
Wait it out: Sometimes, updates can take longer than expected, especially on new installations. Before taking any drastic measures, give it some more time, as updates might still be in progress.
Restart: If waiting doesn't resolve the issue, try restarting your laptop. Sometimes, a simple restart can help the update process resume normally.
Safe Mode: If the restart doesn't work, you can try booting your laptop into Safe Mode and then restarting it. Safe Mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services, which can sometimes help to resolve update issues.
- To boot into Safe Mode, turn off your laptop and then turn it on. As soon as the HP logo appears, repeatedly press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears. Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.
Update Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help identify and fix issues with updates. To run it:
- Open the Windows Settings (press Win + I).
- Go to "System" > "Troubleshoot".
- Under "Get up and running," select "Windows Update" and follow the on-screen instructions.
System Restore: If the update is causing significant issues, you might consider performing a System Restore to revert your system to a previous state before the update was installed. This should be used as a last resort, as it will remove any changes made after the restore point.
- To perform a System Restore, search for "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar and then click on "System Restore" within the System Properties window.
Offline Update: If all else fails, you can try performing an offline update using a USB drive with the latest Windows 11 installation files. This can sometimes bypass update issues that occur during online updates.
- You'll need to download the Windows 11 installation media onto a USB drive using another computer.
- Boot your Spectre laptop from the USB drive and choose the "Upgrade" option to install Windows 11 while preserving your files and settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
