Hi @myarborough,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "No battery installed" error on your HP laptop can be caused by various issues, such as a loose battery connection, a faulty battery, or a software glitch. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem.
Check the Battery Connection
- Power off the laptop and unplug it from the charger.
- Remove the battery if it's a removable type. If not, skip this step.
- Inspect the battery and the battery bay for any debris or dust. Clean if necessary.
- Reinsert the battery securely, making sure it's properly seated.
- Power on the laptop and check if the issue persists.
Update the Battery Drivers
- Open Device Manager: Press Windows + X and select "Device Manager."
- Expand the "Batteries" section.
- Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select "Uninstall device."
- After uninstalling, click on "Action" at the top of the Device Manager and select "Scan for hardware changes." This will reinstall the driver.
- Restart your laptop.
Perform a Power Reset
- Shut down the laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
- Turn on the laptop and see if the battery is recognized.
Update BIOS
- Check if your laptop's BIOS is up to date. An outdated BIOS can cause battery detection issues.
- Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest BIOS version for your laptop model.
- Follow the instructions provided on the HP website to update the BIOS.
Check Battery Health
- If the battery is detected but shows incorrect information or doesn't charge, it might be degraded.
- You can check the battery health using HP Support Assistant or by running a battery test in BIOS.
- To run a battery test in BIOS: Restart the laptop and press F2 repeatedly during startup to enter the BIOS menu. Look for the Diagnostics section and select Battery Test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
