Did this work because I am having the same issue installed a new HDD but the recovery disc I made did not work so I ordered them from HP

For anybody who has replaced the hard drive and has used the Recovery disks only to get the "No bootable device" message:  make sure you are using the Factory Reset option.

The System Restore option does not repartition the drive.  *Please select The Factory Reset option*

Thank you.  Sometimes it didn't work, but when I held the keys down a little longer, it seemed to work.

It worked sometimes, but mostly it didn't. I found recovery discs and inserted the first one and got the computer to finally start. But I don't think it's a permanent fix. Indications the hard drive may be going bad. Don't know. Think I'll back everything up and buy another computer just in case. This HP Pavilion is about 6 years old and has served me fairly well.
