HP 242 G2 Base Model Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to do a fresh install of Windows 10 on a HP 242 G2 Notebook. It works fine when installing from a Windows DVD (burned from iso downloaded with Media Creation Tool) but doesn't from a bootable flash drive (also created with the Media Creation Tool). In the partition management window it doesn't show any storage device or drives or anything! and says: "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers and then click OK".

Methods that I've tried:

  • Reseting defaults in the BIOS
  • Changing the USB ports (all of the ports are 2.0 so that didn't help)
  • Formating the Hard Drive using the Command Prompt in Windows Recovery Environment

This problem has been bugging me for the last couple of years. Any help would be appreciated.

Note: I've only used the Media Creation Tool and not the RUFUS tool

Hi:

I can't think of a reason why you are getting that error on W10 either.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if loading the storage controller drivers when you get to that window where you get the no device drivers were found message.

I see that your notebook's support page does not have those drivers, so I have zipped them up and attached them below.

Download and unzip the attached file to its folder.  Copy the files to a USB flash drive.

When you get to that window, click on the Load Driver option at the bottom of that window and browse to the driver folder on your USB flash drive.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

See if W10 can then find the drive.
