Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx and EliteDisplay E241i monitor
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed a BIOS update (through HP Support Assistant) recently, and now the monitor does not receive the signal from the laptop and the laptop does not detect the monitor.

They were working fine together until the BIOS update. I did not update anything else or install any new programs or change the cable that connects the laptop and the monitor. I shut down the laptop after the update was completely finished. The next day, when I started the laptop, there was no display on the external monitor.

The monitor scans for a signal but does not find one. The laptop does not detect the monitor. I tried the F4 button, but nothing happens when I click the “extend” option. When I go to Windows Settings, then Display, and click on the “Detect” button for an external display, I get the message, “Didn’t detect another display.”

I am using the mini-DisplayPort on the laptop and DisplayPort on the monitor. These are the only two ports that correspond. The laptop has HDMI, but the monitor does not. I tested the monitor with a PC and the monitor worked. I do not have another monitor to test with the laptop.

I tried to contact Customer Support through the HP Support Assistant, but when I called with my case number, the customer service was really poor. I was transferred half a dozen times, and each time, I was asked for the case number and then had to repeat what the problem was, even though I wrote a clear description when I submitted my request for support.

One person sounded like he was at a party; I heard people talking and laughing in the background. Another person was not speaking English. I repeated “Excuse me?” and “Pardon me?” until he said, “French?”   I said, “English,” and he said, “Oh, English department,” and transferred me again.

The last time I was told I would be transferred, after hearing for the third time, “You need to speak to SmartFriend,” I gave up, said “never mind,” and ended the call. I am very frustrated, first of all with the problem itself, and second, with trying to get it fixed.

I use this monitor for work, and it is more difficult for me to do my job well on the 15-inch laptop screen than on my 24-inch monitor. I believe this problem was caused by the BIOS update and needs to be fixed by HP, promptly and at no cost to customers who are experiencing this problem.

@p_rose,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Have you tried to check with a different cable?

Have you tried to connect this monitor to another PC? Alternatively you can try to connect another monitor to this laptop and check if that works.

While you respond with the details, please refer to this support document for -  Display or Monitor is Blank (Black) after Starting the Computer

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the graphics card drivers from device manager:

Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.

Check the box that states delete the software for this device.

Now restart the computer and then update the Bios, Chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC either from our HP support website, using this link or download it using HP Support Assistant

Download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

I hope this should do the trick. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

I have the same problem. Your suggestions did not help, unfortunately.
