I was browsing email when PC stopped responding; kept waiting but had to cut power off. Waited few minutes and restarted but it wouldn't boot into windows. Called McAfee tech support, but they couldn't help. When checking system using F8 etc showed no hard disk. Can you please help me ?? Love this PC! Thank you in advance!!!!

What would cause the hard drive to fail without warning?  Since this is a notebook, a drop or hard bump could cause it to fail but just a failing component or a slightly out of spec component could throw it out.  Modern hard drives are not as long lasting sometimes because they are being pressed more and more by the way they are used.  And the laptop hard drives are smaller and smaller to hold large amounts of data, pushing the technology.

That typically means the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

Thank you,  Dean, aka TheOldMan for  the information!  In your opinion, what would cause the hard drive to fail without warning? I'm just curious .   Also,  I guess that means nothing can be retrieved , but what  are your thoughts about replacing the hard drive?  Thanks!
