Hp laptop 15-da0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Laptop was in a repair loop after W10 update, the laptop is 1 week old. Followed instructions to do operating system refresh from partition and after 3 hours it had not gone past 0% so I turned off. Now when I turn on boot device or found please install operating system on your hard disk hard disk. The laptop didnt Come with disks as has no dvd drive. Any help at this stage would be lifesaving. Do I need to buy a new copy of W10 put onto usb? It didnt Come with disks as has no dvd drive.

OK, looks like option 3 is the only one viable in the short-term and @Lil_Boy_Blue provided you the link to download and create Win10 install media.

If you ever do get hold of HP Customer Support, I too would see about returning this model for a replacement -- as, as far as I know, HP does not provide refunds.

Good Luck

You actually have three very different options ...

1) Have it serviced -- with a one-week old PC, why spend a lot of time trying to fix it yourself when you can get HP to do that for you under the warranty?

While this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about troubleshooting and repairing your machine remotely.
I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet to check out the problems.

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1
If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836

---------------------------------------
However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.
---------------------------------------

2) Restore the PC to factory settings

You can TRY this by doing the following:

a) press the Esc key repeatedly while rebooting the laptop

b) You should get a utilities menu, one of the options being to reset the PC

c) Choose that option and the PC will reboot

d) If all goes well, the PC will be restored back to its original settings

3) Reinstall Win10 on your own

Using another PC, you can use this link to download and create Win10 install media on USB stick:

When you have that, insert it into your PC, reboot it, pressing F9 to get to a Boot Devices menu.  When that appears, select the USB stick from the menu.

It should then start the process of installing Win10 afresh.

Since this PC was already running Win10, once it finishes the install and you reboot and connect to the Internet, it should then reactivate Win10 without issue.

------------------------------------------

My own preferences, if this were my laptop, would be in this order: 1, 2, and if necessary, 3

Why? Because since this is a brand-new PC, if HP can't fix it remotely, then you should be able to explore the option of getting it replaced under Warranty.

Hi thanks so much for the reply. I was holding for them on Friday but no answer. I managed to do diagnostic hd isfine,  but My boot options menu is blank 😞  need the laptop for Monday so options running low. Option 2 there is now no utilities menu only Bios With no option to rest pc (restored defaults). Option 3 looks like my only option, did you provide a link ? I could not find it. Is this a free copy of Windows 10 or will I need to pay for ?

If it was me, I would return for a full refund.

Is HP paying you to fix this laptop that should work out of the box?

Plenty of good deals on laptops. Go into a store, and buy one!

Return the dud for a refund.

return for refund for USA customers : https://store.hp.com/us/en/cv/ReturnsandExchanges?id=page-return-exchange-policy

if you purchased on HP.com

if you purchased from Walmart, Best Buy, or other retail store then their return policies govern your pruchase

Finally rocking windows 10 again 🙂 it worked apart from no sound, which is a bit annoying but at least I can now get work done. I have downloaded the drivers do you have any idea what the issue maybe here. In hardware manager it says I have most up to date drivers
