Hi,
my laptop has a BCD error.
I enter the recovery environment and choose trouble shoot but there is no option to do a reset.
There are no System restore points and I don't have a system image file to recover. It gives me the options of uninstalling updates but won't do these. Of course the Start-up repair option fails too.
This is a HP 14-cf2502 laptop
Many thanks
Shane

Hi, Shane:
You can use the HP cloud recovery tool on another PC running W7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support
Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.
Your PC's product number is: 2B5W5EA#ABU if you have a 14-cf2502na.

Hi - I'm having an issue.
Using a separate Windows PC to try and download this software.
I'm an logged in as the administrator account but when I try to open the HP Cloud Recovery tool through the windows store app, it tells me that I need to right click and run as administrator, however the right click doesn't work.
Thanks
Shane

I'd try a different USB flash drive.
There should be no need to format the drive because the tool will automatically format it the way it needs to.
I've never had an issue with the Cloud recovery tool not seeing the USB flash drive and I have run it many times for many different PC's.

OK - for some reason recovering and reinserting the USB in a different port helped.
I created the tool but now at the boot stage on the laptop I get the message (after switching but options)
This computer is not supported by System Recovery Media.
You will not be able to continue to recover this system with this Media.
Error:
0122-0-1
thanks again

That's an unpleasant surprise and unfortunately, I wouldn't know what you can do about that, since the tool let you make the recovery media which would indicate your notebook is supported and then it tells you it isn't when you go to use it.
So...your other option is to make a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive with the Microsoft media creation tool from the link below. Make the 64-bit installation media.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
After the installation media has been created, boot from the USB flash drive and reinstall W10.
You have two options:
If you want to try and recover files, when you get to the screen that asks, 'Where do you want to install Windows,' let it install over the existing Windows partition and it will create a Windows.old folder.
After W10 has installed, you can explore the Windows.old folder, find your old user profile and copy the user folders from your old profile to the new one.
If you don't want or need to recover files, delete every partition on the hard drive when you get to the screen that asks, 'Where do you want to install Windows,' leaving just one partition of unallocated space.
Click Next and W10 will install.
AfterW10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
