HI  folks

I'm trying to fix a friends notebook it wont load windows the HP sign just stays there and nothing happems..

I can get into Bios etc and get into Rest but get the following, No restore point had been created it suggests go to system protection to create one. But on doing that it says System protection is available only in online operating system.

Can anyone help or should I just give up on the little thing?

Hi @S-3,

It looks like you were interacting with @Dvortex, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

As I understand you have run the test which passed without any errors. More over you tried to perform a system recovery using the partition and for some reason you are not able to initiate as this could be due to the file missing or file is corrupted. In this scenario, the only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

HP PCs - Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Hello, @S-3 – Greetings!

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums! I’d like to help 🙂

I see that you are trying to fix the HP notebook. Did you try to run a hardware test to determine any hardware failure?

If not, try the steps below:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc to get the Startup menu. Now press F2 key.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
  4. Run the extensive system test from the list.
  5. Let me know if the test passes or not.

You can find the detailed steps here: http://hp.care/2wE5bvd

If the test passes, then try to perform a system recovery. System recovery is the last step to troubleshoot this issue. This option reformats the system drive (usually C:), reinstalls the original operating system and reinstalls all the original hardware drivers and software. All you save files will be lost and your computer will be formatted to the day you purchased the machine.

Go to HP Recovery Manager and follow the steps under “Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly”.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂
