My HP laptop is stuck in a reset loop. After I perform a factory reset, it shows “Preparing” and then restarts continuously. I have tried recovery mode and system checks, but it doesn’t fix the problem. There is no system image available

have tried:

Factory reset multiple times

Recovery mode (F11)

Command prompt checks (chkdsk, network tests)

Connecting via USB tethering and Wi-Fi

Looking for system image or Cloud Recovery

Please guide me on how to fix this issue, or provide instructions for HP Cloud Recovery or other repair options. I don’t have another PC or USB drive.

Hi @Muhammedsmarty1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is stuck in a reset loop, even after performing a factory reset, and you're unable to find a system image, there are several steps that you can try to resolve the issue

Hard Reset:

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, external hard drives).
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try to turn on the laptop.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Ensure your BIOS is set to boot from the correct drive.
  • Start your laptop and immediately press the F10 key repeatedly to enter BIOS (or UEFI).
  • Check the boot order and ensure that the internal hard drive is selected as the primary boot device.

Use HP Recovery Manager:

  • If you can access HP Recovery Manager through the F11 button on startup, use it to attempt a system recovery.
  • Choose options such as "System Restore" or "Minimized Image Recovery" that may help resolve the loop.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool.
  • Turn on your laptop and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly.
  • When the Startup menu opens, press F2 to select System Diagnostics.
  • Run tests on the hard drive and memory to check for hardware faults.

Windows Recovery Drive:

  • If you have access to another computer, you can create a Windows 10 recovery USB drive.
  • On a working computer, go to the Microsoft website to download the Windows media creation tool and create the recovery drive.
  • Boot your HP laptop from the USB recovery drive and select "Repair your computer."

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and ideally resolve the reset loop issue with your HP laptop. If hardware issues are identified, replacing defective components may be necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
