Hi @bfsandi,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the USB ports on your HP laptop have stopped working, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.
Check for Physical Damage:
- Inspect the USB ports for any physical damage. If you see bent pins, debris, or anything unusual, it may be causing connectivity issues.
Restart Your Laptop:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve hardware issues. Shut down your laptop, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
Update USB Drivers:
Outdated or corrupted USB drivers can cause problems. Make sure your USB drivers are up-to-date. You can do this through the Device Manager in the Windows operating system.
Right-click on the Start button, select "Device Manager."
Look for "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and expand the category.
Right-click on each USB Root Hub and select "Update driver."
Check Power Management Settings:
- Power management settings might be turning off the USB ports to save power.
- In Device Manager, right-click on each USB Root Hub, go to "Properties," and uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn off the device to save power.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Check the BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure that USB functionality is enabled. Reboot your laptop and access the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually Del, Esc, F2, or F10).
Try Another USB Device:
- Test the USB ports with different USB devices to ensure the issue is not specific to one device.
System Restore:
- If the problem started recently, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the USB ports were working.
- Type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Update Windows:
- Ensure your operating system is up-to-date. Windows updates can include fixes for hardware-related issues.
Check for Viruses/Malware:
- Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out the possibility of malware affecting USB functionality.
Remember to back up your important data before making significant changes to your system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
