My laptop is asking me to reset the password, but for that I have to type down the current password, but I do not recall my current password and the disc option is also not working. So, what should I do now?

Hi @Mrigank-01

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If you’ve forgotten your current password and the reset disk isn’t working, here are some ways to regain access:

Reset via Microsoft Account (if applicable)

  • If your laptop is linked to a Microsoft account, go to Microsoft’s password reset page on another device.
  • Follow the instructions to reset your password using a secondary authentication method.

Use Another Administrator Account

  • If there’s another account with admin privileges on your laptop, log in with that account.
  • Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage another account and reset your password.

Boot into Safe Mode (Local Account Only)

  • Restart your laptop and press Shift + Restart at the login screen.
  • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • Choose Enable Safe Mode and log in with the built-in Administrator account (if enabled).
  • Open Control Panel > User Accounts and reset your password.

Factory Reset (Last Resort)

  • If all else fails, you can reset your laptop to factory settings, but this will erase all data.
  • Restart and press F11 to enter HP Recovery Manager, then follow the reset instructions.
