Tried the USB drive and empty USB method, and got

Windows 10 Update Error 0x1900101-0x2000C

SAFE-OS phase error during APPLY_IMAGE operation

Any ideas?

Usually this would be down to malware or file corruption rather than the limited size of the drive.

Open an administrator command prompt:

Click start, type 'cmd' and in the search results RIGHT click and select open as adminstrator.

Type

sfc /scannow

This should check for windows files that have been modified or corrupted (and hopefully fix them).

It wouldn't hurt to also run a disk scan before upgrading

(note the space between the : and the /)

chkdsk c: /f

A scan for malware would be my next step, try malwarebytes (details on my site in the help section).

Then tryyour upgrade again, there are of course other issues that could be present within your windows installation but these are a few places to start.

I have checked the storage option and most of the space is used by "System & Reserved" files! So how am I supposed to run anything in this computer! I used the cleanup option and clicked on the system files button, but very little space got freed! Also, I literally do not have any Apps and Games files, these are mostly Microsoft, HP, and Intel files, plus Adobe and the printer application. furthermore, I used the powercfg option as recommended in another post and it reutrned an error message.

So is this computer useless?

Have you got 10GB free space yet, Microsoft helpline will help you get that.

Could be a corrupt file somewhere, try   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors

It's safe until 10th April 2018, hope you get it fixed by then, or can get a refund

I've never heard about the 10GB free space that you mention. Th laptop only has 29GB of storage capacity. I would appreciate if you let me know how to contact Microsoft helpline.

I will check for a possible corrupt file. However, in the update the message is always that there is not enough storage space in the computer.

Thanks,

-Rocky

That's for the UK, google microsoft windows helpline number, not to be confused with premium numbers (last resort)

It is too bad you choose to completely ignore jeet_singh's post.

All Microsoft is going to do is bounce you out.

I have the same issue. I have nothing saved on the computer and only downloaded maybe three basic apps I always use. Got it in November and by January was receiving the message that it couldn't update. Tried everything include the external drive for update attempts and got the message it failed repeatedly. The last draw was not even being able to use iTunes.
