Hi @Anu49
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
1. Check Group Policy Settings
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type gpedit.msc and press Enter (note: this is only available on Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise editions).
- Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
- Look for any settings that may restrict access to shutdown options or Alt + F4 functionality, and set them to Not Configured or Disabled.
2. Modify Registry Settings
- Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
- Look for any values that might restrict shutdown options (like NoClose). If found, delete them or set them to 0.
3. Check for Corrupted System Files
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator:
- Right-click the Start button and select Windows Terminal (Admin).
- Run the following commands:
- Allow these processes to complete and then restart your laptop.
4. Update Windows
- Make sure your Windows is up to date:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any available updates.
5. Check for Software Conflicts
- Sometimes third-party applications can interfere. Boot into Safe Mode:
- Restart your computer and press Shift + F8 repeatedly during startup until you see the recovery screen.
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After the restart, choose Safe Mode.
- Check if the problem persists in Safe Mode. If not, a third-party application may be causing the issue.
6. Create a New User Account
- Sometimes user profile corruption can cause issues. Create a new user account:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
- Click Add someone else to this PC and follow the prompts to create a new account.
- Log in with the new account and check if the issue persists.
7. Restore System Settings
- If the problem started recently, you could consider performing a system restore to a point when it was working correctly:
- Go to Settings > System > About > System Protection and click on System Restore.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
-Regards
