My month old notebook runs very slowly at times. The task manager shows a process called HP Comm Recovery using 96% of CPU. What is it ? Can I stop it or other wise fix it ?  Thanks

Hi @newbieuk,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that in the task manager HP comm recovery is using 96% CPU usage and it is slowing the performance of your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, I recommend you end the HPcommrecovery process in task manager and check if it helps. HPCommRecovery.exe is not essential for the Windows OS and causes relatively few problems.

Some malware camouflages itself as HPCommRecovery.exe, particularly when located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder. Therefore, you should check the HPCommRecovery.exe process on your PC to see if it is a threat. I recommend you run a full virus scan on your computer to make sure it is virus free.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care.

Cheers!

Hello!

I have a problem which occurs a couple of times a month - and which is terrible irritating.

The problem is named hpcommrecovery.exe, which is using allmost all the memory. I can see, that you have had complaints before, but I have not seen any solutions yet.

And yes, I have got Bullguard, which does not detect any mallware.

And no, I will not reload windows or set the computer back to a previous version.

And no, I will not delete the process each time it occurs - even if it in fact helps.

Please fix this **bleep**ty program, and send me a new version.

Kind regards Claus

Claus, welcome to this forum.

Since your symptoms do not match the symptoms reported by the author of this question, and your comments do not help the original author of the question towards a solution, you should have opened a new question, and then include the details (model-number, operating system, age of the computer, which operating system that you are using (Vista? 7? 8.1? 10?), and whether the original HP Warranty is still active.  Please open a new question.

Also, this is a "user-to-user" forum, not a path to make "official" contact with HP Support.
