HP Pavilion 14
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This laptop has been very slow and the disk usage is stuck at 100% in the task manager. Drivers have been updated, OS reinstalled and the laptop has even been returned to the shop who have confirmed with HP the hardware is fine.

Now after all this the laptop has run out of warrently so I cannot call HP to get them to investigate the issue.

Does anyone have any further suggestions for resolving this issue?

Thank you.

How much RAM does the laptop have?

What is the exact model of your laptop?

Generally, a SSD will liven up an old laptop.

Thanks for the Reply Lee, It's HP Pabilion 14-bf0xx. 64bit OS with 8GB of ram.

An SSD would be nice but the laptop was taken back to the store who confirmed the disk was not faulty and they said the issue was software.

When you say disk usage is 100% in Task Manager, are you talking about the Process tab with 100% being showed used by one or more processes?

If that is the case, my guess would be that Windows Update is running as it can be quite a process and disk "hog" while it is running.  The 100% disk usage in that scenario simply means that Windows Update is monoplozing the USAGE of the drive and will not give it back until the Update process is done.  That is a temporary problem and will go away when Windows Update stops.  Examining the drive will show no issues because it is not a problem with the drive.

Thanks Wood - Windows updates are not running and the computer is up-to-date. I've left the computer on for several hours and it hasn't dropped down from 100%. I've also completly reinstalled the OS and repatched with no avail, something does seem to be hogging the disc though task manager shows all the processing using very little yet the total usuage won't budge.

Well, I was hoping that was it; apparently, not.

Here is a thread with some other things you can try:  https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/100-disk-usage-windows-10.html

Good Luck
