Dear HP Support,
I am reaching out regarding an issue I'm experiencing with my HP Laptop 15s-eq1017ni (Product Number: 7F192EA). Here are the key specifications of my device for reference:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 3250U (2.6 GHz base, up to 3.5 GHz, 2 cores 4 threads)
Graphics: AMD Radeon Vega 3
RAM: 8 GB DDR4
Storage: 256 GB SSD
Operating System: Windows 11 Home
Keyboard: Full-size with numeric keypad
Issue:
The Num Lock status indicator no longer displays on-screen when I toggle the key. This feature used to work perfectly before, and I relied on it for quick visual confirmation of the key's status.
What I’ve Tried:
Checked the installed programs and drivers in Control Panel.
Visited the HP support page and reviewed the available drivers under:
Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
Reinstalled the HP Wireless Button Driver as well as other touchpad and input-related drivers listed.
Verified that on-screen keyboard settings are not causing the issue (this is not related to the on-screen keyboard feature, but rather actual physical button when pressed shows no indicator status but the key works perfectly fine).
Searched HP software such as HP Quick Launch Buttons or HP Hotkey Support, but couldn’t find the correct tool available for my model.
Despite these steps, the Num Lock on-screen display is still missing, and I would appreciate assistance in restoring this functionality. I don’t wish to use third-party tools for this — I’m specifically looking for an HP-provided solution or driver.
Please advise if there’s an updated driver or utility I can install, or guide me on how to resolve this permanently.
ive heard something about the OEM but i have ran out of energy to try and learn hats its about etc as this technological terms becomes too sophisticated to a normal individual
Thanks

Hi @Prince2026,
Thanks for sticking with us and sharing all the details — sounds like you've really been through a lot with this system. I totally get how something like the missing Num Lock indicator, while small, can make a big difference, especially when your work depends heavily on number input.
Since the usual utilities like HP System Event Utility or HP Hotkey UWP Service aren't even showing up in your Startup, it's possible they were never pre-installed (common with display models) or got wiped during resets. Unfortunately, for some HP models, the on-screen indicators are tied to preloaded OEM software that isn’t always available for re-download.
Here’s what I suggest next:
HP Support Assistant – Run a full scan again, just in case it picks up a missing utility.
Check Windows Update > Optional Updates – Sometimes drivers and missing utilities show up there.
If nothing works, and you'd rather not go third-party, we might be at a point where a small visual workaround like enabling Toggle Keys sound (Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard) could serve as a subtle alert for now.
We hear you, and your feedback about the experience really matters.

Hey @Prince2026,
no worries at all — thanks for getting back to us!
I totally get how frustrating this can be, especially after all the steps you’ve already tried. Since the Num Lock key works but the on-screen indicator is missing, let’s dig a bit deeper:
Try This:
Open Task Manager > Startup tab — check if something like HP System Event Utility or HP Hotkey UWP Service is listed and enabled. If not, that could be the missing piece for on-screen indicators.
Also, go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, and double-check if Toggle Keys or similar options might affect the alert display.
A few quick questions to guide next steps:
Do you remember if the indicator stopped after a Windows update or BIOS update?
Have you recently reset the PC or changed the OS version (e.g., clean install)?
When you installed the ISO — was it directly from HP or Windows Media Creation Tool?
Once I know a bit more, I’ll help you pinpoint the right fix!

hi
after checking the Task Manager > Startup tab, there is no HP System Event Utility or HP Hotkey UWP Service is listed there. i also went to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, and double-checked there but Toggle Keys or similar options might not be the cause of this.
the pc was giving me nightmares the time i bought it,it was on display and the store bought it at apparently was out of stock so i opted to take the one on display since it was the one available and i needed a laptop for acacdemic purposes (which im currently using) but the thing is ive been dealing with some error messages, ive tried returning it to the retailer i was unsucsessful, i opted for a trade-in and that too had hickups so i couldnt get it fixed even the email i wrote they just responded with some general info to try out to resolve the crashing of apps, bluescreens and error messages. During those times i was desparate for assistance coz even hp technitians couldnt do much abt it, so i ended up doing factory rests, bios updates, repairing it via media creation tool and rufus as well, but the issue kept on coming back. so to answer your question whether the indicator stopped after a Windows update, BIOS update, repair, reset and restore, clean wipe,
well yes, ive done everything and i did sometimes install it directly from HP or Windows Media Creation Tool.
this situation calmed down when windows released the 24H2 version, but i do still feel some lag here and there, but the little thing like num lock notification display is one thing that i cant ignore because my modules focuses more on numbers and calculations, having a number keypad make things easier than just 1 to 0 straightlined keypad, this improves the effectiveness and ease of access when it comes to punching long and hidious numbers.
