I received a call from HP back in September, this is where it all started. At the time I didn't have home WiFi. Anywho, I had an East Indian guy calling my phone in regards to some error messages that came across his screen at "HP support" Mind you I had not turned on my computer that evening and I the warranty that came with my laptop had expired months ago.
He stated there were issues with my account and for me to fix them so my computer can work smoothly.
Now this week, I believe it was Wednesday, in the afternoon, around 2pm I had received another call from another East Indian guy. He had explained that "I was receiving a refund of some sort, for the services I purchased" He stated, " The initial price I paid had dropped and he wanted to issue a refund." What I found strange was that I never purchased anything. I purchased the laptop from walmart Last year and bought a year warranty with walmart.
After I bluntly told him, Hey I NEVEER EVER Purchased anything from HP directly, why are you calling me, what's all this ??" He got a bit agitated and said " Speak clearly, and I'll call back in a bit on a different line to hear you better."
He called back over 7 times in the past 3 days..
He called today with the same storyline. and Put what he swore was his supervisor on the line to discuss what was going on. However, I noticed there were some issues. 1) when you call HP or any support center, it does not sound like a 3rd world country where you have people yelling in the background over the phones.
2) They were confused as to why I questioned the validity of the refund.
After going back and forth I just told him "look this seems like a scam to me. I never ever purchased anything from HP directly" . I went to the walmart last year to buy the laptop. It works fine. I dunno what is going on but hopefully someone here will have some insights.
The caller said to "press and hold the windows button and the letter R "
I hung up after this.
I have experienced where actual HP support teams have intercepted my computer from their end but it was never oh you gotta log into a website and download a product. Which is why I feel it's sketchy and scammy.

Hi:
No one from HP will ever call you out of the blue and tell you anything about your PC...good or bad.
HP has released this document which cautions us to be wary of such scams.

You did the right thing by hanging up on the guy.

I've also received numerous calls from "HP Support" all claiming that my machine is sending them error messages and they will be willing to assist or my hard drive will crash & the world will end. So far today I've had three calls from them at 800-425-2067. How they know my name and type of laptop is very suspicious. Even blowing a referee whistle into the phone doesn't deter them.
