OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ek1000 (2B1K3AV)

Laptop model: OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ek1000 (2B1K3AV)

Whenever my GPU is on PCIe 3.0 my games crash after a while. It doesn't matter which game it crashes in almost every videogame. I've managed to fix the crashes by forcing my GPU to use PCIe 2.0 no matter what but this sacrifices performance and of course not an optimal solution. I suspect that the latest BIOS update in April messed up with something so there really needs to be a new BIOS update released by your team to fix this.

Thank you for sharing the details of your experience with your OMEN 15-ek1000. We understand how inconvenient GPU crashes can be, especially during gaming.

The PCIe 3.0 stability issues you’re experiencing may be related to the recent BIOS update. We appreciate that you found a temporary workaround by switching to PCIe 2.0, though we understand it can impact performance.

We recommend the following steps:

  1. Check for BIOS Updates: Periodically visit the HP Support Page for your model, as the engineering team may release a fix.

  2. Update GPU Drivers: Ensure your graphics drivers are fully up to date, as updates can sometimes improve PCIe compatibility and stability.

  3. Contact HP Support: If the issue persists, reach out to HP Support so the problem can be logged and escalated for a future BIOS release.

Please let us know if these steps help, or contact us again — we’re here to assist and ensure your gaming experience is smooth and stable.

After several tests I have found out that the crashes are not caused of PCIe but because of VRAM. If I underclock my VRAM clock the crashes stop happening. In my case everytime before I start gaming I have to enter "nvidia-smi -i 0 --lock-memory-clocks=810" on my cmd otherwise my games crash after a certain period of time. I would like to know if it's possible to revert my BIOS to an older version to see if it's related to BIOS or not.

@Darkix

Thank you for sharing these detailed observations. It’s great that you’ve isolated the issue to VRAM behavior — that’s very helpful.

Regarding BIOS rollback, in most cases, HP systems are designed to prevent reverting to an older BIOS version for stability and security reasons. However, if the update was recent, you can try restoring a previous version using the HP BIOS recovery tool.

Please share your exact product model and current BIOS version (you can find it by typing msinfo32 in the Windows search bar) via private message. Once we have those details, we can confirm if a rollback option is available for your unit and guide you through the safe procedure.
