I recently installed a new SSD to my laptop and now looking to transfer the OS to SSD from primary HDD.
Please share the step by step process to transfer the OS and making SSD as the primary boot drive.
Thanks!!

Hi,
There are different methods for doing this. You could use HP recovery disks, migrate an image (usually done when you have not replaced the drive yet with a USB to SATA adapter) using a program such as Macrium reflect.
My preferred method is performing a clean install, so I will copy the instruction below and let me know if you need any further help.
download the media creation tool from Microsoft on different PC, run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to Internet.

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS. So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off PC by holding power button. Press power button and immediately keep pressing ESC until startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows. You do not need a product key as it is in the firmware. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to internet.
When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times. Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product.

I've done this repeatedly, and what I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
2) Follow the instructions in this link: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Cloning+a+disk
3) Shutdown the PC when done
4) Remove the HDD and reboot the PC.
NOTE: To do this easily, the SDD has to be the same capacity as the HDD. IF you get an SDD that is a lot smaller, then before you do the cloning, you have to shrink the largest partition on the HDD (usually the OS partition), to the size such that it, and the other partitions, fit easily on the SSD.
You should boot from the new drive without any problems.
However, if when you reconnect the HDD the PC now boots from it, you will have to go into the BIOS/UEFI and change the order of the drives to boot from the SSD.
