Pavilion X2 - 10-n200nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello, my "old" Pavilion is suffering of lack of memory, no updates is possible nor factory reset, due to the same reason.

So I decided to install Win 8.1 Pro (32 bit). I tried almost all the combination that came in my mind but with no success.

I created the bootable pen drive using both MS USB tool and Rufus (tried some setup combination) but the USB isn't seen by the BIOS, and even when I force Windows to see it, it results in an error. So I tried another USB stick but again no success.

Please, is there anybody that can help me with this issue?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, folks use "memory" and "disk space" as the same thing -- and they are very different.

If you're running into problems doing Updates, it's most certainly "disk space" -- here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:

In addition, I have found the utility Cleanmgr+ to have LOTS of options for removing Windows junk, including log files. I use it practically every day. You can get it from here: https://www.getclone.app/download/category/11-cleanmgr

Also, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

The thing is I don't want to know how to clean up the disk but I need to know the proper BIOS (or Rufus) setup to install another copy of Windows from scratch. I just tried the programs you mentioned, but I can free only 1.5/2 GB, not enough for my proposal: that's why I want to erase Win 10 and start from a very very clean disk.

Thanks

PS: sorry, I thought that lack of memory and low disk space were synonyms.

In some UEFI BIOSs, there is a setting to specifically Disable booting from external media -- and that will prevent you installing any OS from a USB stick.  You would have to hunt around to find it, as it is not the same as disabling Secure Boot.

Do you know if someone have done this hunt in the past? I disabled the secure boot, but it's the only option available in the BIOS settings, that are very poor. Maybe is there an advanced visualization or something else?
