HP ENVY dv6-7267cl
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hard drive failed on the unit the other day, bought new drive and replaced it.  Did not get the Recovery discs and was referred to the HP Cloud Recovery Tool by HP Support.

I'm running it on another machine so it wants a Product ID.  I have a Product Number and a Serial Number.  Neither works.  Serial comes back with "Product ID is invalid".  Product Number comes back with "Product ID does not match or is invalid.  Please contact HP Support."  Tried the Product Number with and without the #XXX at the end.

Can anyone offer some advise as to what I'm doing wrong?

Hi:

The cloud recovery client utility is only supported on select HP PC's that originally came with W10 and were manufactured in 2016 or later.

Your notebook does not meet either of those criteria, so I have no idea why HP support would tell you that you could use it.

So you have two options...

1. Since HP no longer sells recovery media for your notebook's model series, buy W8 recovery media from this non-HP vendor at the link below and upgrade back to W8.1.

2.  Clean install W8.1 for free by using the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if yours is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit.

Only if you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the W8.1 generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or usb flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.
